news-details

ISLAMABAD: In the wake of the May 9 riots and the PTI's violent protests, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif flatly rejected Imran Khan's request to hold discussions on Tuesday. The prime minister rejected the idea of engaging in talks with Mr. Khan's party and insisted that individuals responsible for the destruction of both public and private property on May 9 should be held accountable for their anti-state activities.

In order for democracy to advance, dialogue is essential, but it cannot be undertaken with "anarchists and arsonists dressed as politicians," the premier wrote in a tweet. Just a few days prior, Mr. Khan pleaded with the powers that be for swift meetings with government representatives.
