Israel Claims 40% Control of Gaza City as Offensive Intensifies

GAZA: 05.09.2025: Israel now controls 40% of Gaza City, according to military spokesperson Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin, as its latest offensive pushes deeper into the city. The assault, launched on August 10, has forced thousands to flee, while many residents remain, refusing evacuation orders.

Gaza health officials reported at least 53 Palestinians killed in latest strike, mostly in Gaza City. Israeli forces have advanced through neighborhoods like Zeitoun and Sheikh Radwan, now just a few kilometers from the city center.

Defrin said that the operation would intensify, aiming to dismantle Hamas and recover hostages. He also confirmed that Israel may impose military rule in Gaza if no alternative post-war plan is in place.

Despite Israeli evacuation warnings, many civilians said that there are no safe places left. Heavy bombardments struck multiple districts, destroying homes and tents. The humanitarian crisis has drawn global criticism and raised tensions within Israel’s own leadership.
