Israeli tanks have encircled the eastern half of Rafah.


Palestine: 10 May 2024: According to media, Israeli tanks have taken control of the key road that separates Rafah's eastern and western parts, so surrounding the whole eastern portion of the city in the southern Gaza Strip.Residents reported fierce combat between Israeli forces and Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters, as well as nearly continual explosions and gunfire east and northeast of the city.
According to Hamas, Israeli tanks were ambushed close to a mosque in the eastern part of the city, indicating that the Israeli forces had advanced several kilometers eastward to the edge of the populated region.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that a ground invasion in Gaza's Rafah would result in a "epic humanitarian disaster" following the conclusion of truce negotiations in Cairo without a settlement, according to media.

During a visit to Nairobi, Guterres stated, "We are actively engaged with all involved for the resumption of the entry of life-saving supplies, including desperately needed fuel, through Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings," warning that hunger was imminent.
