TOMB OF SIKANDER SHAH CHAMPANER, GUJARAT

news-details

AhmedAbad: 16 July 2022 When the young Sultan Sikandar Shah, after his accession, left Ahmedabad for Champaner, he did not make the customary halt at Vatva to visit the great shrine, nor did he speak to Saiyid Shaikhji, but remarked about him “This is the man who said that Bahadur Khan would be Sultan of Gujarat.” More than a month later, the Sultan had a distressing dream at Muhammadabad, Champaner, in which he saw the revered Saint Qutb-i-Alam and his son Shah Alam. Sultan Muzaffar was also with them and addressed his son, saying “Sikandar! Sikandar! Descend from the throne, for it is meant for another.”
The next day, the Sultan was killed in his sleep by Imad-ul-Mulk Khushqadam, a close confidant. Later, two mausoleums were raised by Bahadur Shah in honour of his murdered brother Sikandar Shah, and also as the last resting place of his brothers Latif Khan and Nasir Khan.
These Rauzas at Halol were described by James Forbes, who saw them in 1785, as structures of admirable workmanship, containing marble tombs adorned with excellent skill. The magnificent arches allow for a play of light, both tragic and serene at once, in the absence of the main dome.
