Torrential rain hits parts of country, inundates low-lying areas

ISLAMABAD: 10, SEPTEMBER, 2021: Torrential rain lashed parts of country, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting power supply. 

According to deatils, in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Kasur the downpour has flooded streets and main roads, causing difficulties for the locals in traveling. 

On the other hand, Karachi and Peshawar also faced difficulties as heavy rain hit the parts of cities.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PDM), rain-wind/thundershower is expected in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, eastern Balochistan and Sindh. Isolated heavy falls are also likely to occur during the period.

Rainfall along with gusty winds hit Karachi and other districts of the province from Wednesday night. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a monsoon low pressure area lies over Central India with its trough extending westward.

Under the influence of this weather system, rainfall with thunderstorm and occasional gusty winds and isolated heavy falls likely in Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Jamshoro and Karachi districts from Wednesday to Sep 11.

Tharparker, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta districts will likely to receive rainfall with occasional gusty winds and heavy falls at isolated places till 11th September.

In its weather report, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Dadu districts to receive showers from Thursday to Saturday.

Earlier, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Sindh issued an alert for heavy downpour in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benzairabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Sukkur and Larkana.

The alert addressed to all district administrations in the province has advised alert in view of a forecast of the PMD about heavy rainfall with thunderstorms from September 8 to 11. (04)
