Karachi: 14 April 2024: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated on Sunday that efforts were underway to drain rainwater from the main arteries of the city following rainfall in parts of Karachi. In a social media post, Wahab mentioned, “The staff is busy clearing rainwater from areas where it has collected.”

He further stated that he had visited various areas of Karachi, including Naagin Chowrangi and KDA Chowrangi, where he appreciated the teams working to address the rain situation. Wahab claimed, “The rain has been ongoing for the past three hours, and the main arteries are clear.” In another update, Wahab mentioned that all staff of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board were present on the ground to handle the rain situation. He added, “For the first time, vehicles with suction, jetting, and pumping features have also been deployed on major arteries to deal with the situation.”

As per a weather forecast issued today, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said, “Intermittent rain/thunderstorms of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls” were expected in Karachi today. While the city was expected to experience “mostly cloudy” weather tomorrow (Monday), it was forecasted to become “hot and humid” on Tuesday.
