ISLAMABAD: 26, NOVEMBER, 2021: Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday has reserved a judgement on the admissibility of contempt of court petition against PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and erstwhile PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for allegedly making contemptuous remarks against the judiciary.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the petition filed by female lawyer Kulsoom Khaliq.
During the hearing, the petitioner stated that the derogatory language used against former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar comes under contempt of court. She said "their intention to insult the judiciary", over which, IHC Chief Justice remarked that judges are open minded for criticism. "Judges are on higher positions, therefore, they should welcome criticism on them," he added.
The petitioner stated that Abbasi said "if Nawaz Sharif can go to jail, then why cannot Saqib Nisar".
She pleaded with the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against PML-N leaders for "violating the dignity of justice".
Later, the high court has reserved the verdict and adjourned the hearing. (04)
