Legislation matter: Asad Qaiser appeals Shahbaz to play role for approval of electoral reforms bill, others

ISLAMABAD: 12, NOVEMBER, 2021: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Friday wrote an official letter to Leader of the Opposition and President PML-N Shahbaz Sharif on the matter of legislation.
The speaker has appealed the opposition leader to play role for approval of electoral reforms bill and other important laws.
In a letter written by the Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser to the Leader of the Opposition Shahbaz Sharif, stated that the opposition and the government will have to prioritise the national interests.
The Electoral Amendment Bill has been passed by the National Assembly but not passed by the Senate.
The letter further stated that, the government has decided to present the bill in a joint sitting of parliament, which was later postponed.
Parliamentary committee on legislation, consisting of members of the government and the opposition, had been set up for achieving consensus on the bills and recommended amendments but the consultative process remained incomplete, it added.
He said the committee could not make its recommendations, so we want the parliamentary committee on legislation to meet again and discuss the bill.
Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that Shahbaz Sharif should play his role in legislation after building consensus on important reforms.
The speaker said both sides should step forward for building consensus on important reforms pertaining to the common interests.
He assured that speaker office is ready to cooperate with government and opposition. (04)
